Initial encounter, as if it happened just yesterday.
As if it happened yesterday, I can vividly recall my first encounter with a Thai girl, despite my lack of familiarity with Thailand. I was particularly clueless when it came to the bar scene.
After taking a long 18 hour journey from my home country to Pattaya, my friend and I booked a hotel room near the pier. Walking around the area, we noticed a few bars filled with attractive girls playing pool. As we walked past, three of them grabbed us and tried to pull us inside.
Feeling embarrassed and overwhelmed by their attention, I managed to slip away and found a nice Thai restaurant where I had a delicious meal for only 1.50 USD.
Later that night, my friend suggested we go play pool at one of the bars. As we walked in, we were immediately greeted by Thai women who offered to accompany us. We were thrilled and thought to ourselves, "Thailand is definitely living up to its reputation!"
As we ordered some Singha beers and started playing pool, the girls asked if we wanted to play teams. I picked the most attractive one, a short, tanned woman in her mid 20s with a great smile and an incredible body. For my first day, things were definitely looking up. It was evident that my friend, who was short, stocky, and brown, looked like he was from northern Thailand, despite being Mexican, was equally unaccustomed to the culture.
An hour later, things are still going well. She sits on my lap and whispers in my ear that she likes me and would like a drink. I agree and buy her whatever she wants.
I suggest taking her out for dinner and drinks the next day, but she wants to go tonight. I agree and wait for her to change clothes.
When I ask for my bill, I notice an additional charge of 300 baht. I ask the manager about it, and she explains that it's for the girl and the bar.
I get worked up and challenge the manager, but the girl comes out and explains that I need to pay the bar 300 baht to go with me.
I'm confused and feel like I'm being scammed. I pay for my drinks and leave, embarrassed and humiliated.
After doing some research on Google, I realize that I unknowingly walked into a brothel.
What I have learned and now know forever about these girls.
In Thailand, these girls refers to a female employee who works at a bar and has a regular shift from opening to closing time, typically every day. In order to leave the bar during her shift, she is required to pay a bar fine, which can range from 300 to 1000 baht. Even if she meets a man after her shift and fails to return on time for her next shift, she is still obligated to pay her bar fine.
These girls can earn money in three ways.
They receive a portion of the bar fine, typically 100 baht out of the 300-1000 baht charged to customers for leaving the bar with them.
They earn a small commission on drinks bought for them by customers, usually between 20-80 baht per drink, which is why drinks for girls are more expensive than regular drinks.
The girls negotiate with customers for a fee to take them home. These fees varies and the girl keeps the entire amount.
Make her your girl friend.
If you find yourself interested in a Thai girl and decide to pursue a relationship with her, there is an option to "buy her out from the bar". This means paying a sum to the establishment, so that she no longer has to work there and can be with you.
It's important to note that the bar girl has an agreement with the establishment that she cannot simply stop working and stay with a man she met while working there. To be with her, you must pay for her to finish her work at the bar.
However, it's important to keep in mind that while some relationships do work out, it's not common for the girls to leave the industry entirely. If you do decide to pursue a relationship with a bar girl, it's important to have open and honest communication about each other's expectations and goals for the future.
Conclusion.
In conclusion, my first encounter with a Thai girl ended up being a valuable lesson for me. I learned about the nature of the bar girl industry and the scams that can occur within it. I also learned that it's important to be cautious and informed when traveling to new places and to always do research beforehand. While my experience was not a positive one, it was able to turn it into a learning opportunity that I can take with me in future travels.
First bar experiences of a foreigner in Pattaya.
As a foreigner traveling to Thailand, one cannot miss the bright neon lights and loud music emanating from the various bars in the popular beach town of Pattaya. It was my first time in the country, and I was curious to explore its nightlife scene.
I remember walking into a bar, and my eyes locked onto a young Thai woman dancing on the stage. She had a bright smile and a petite frame, adorned in a colorful outfit. As I sat down at the bar and ordered a drink, she approached me with a friendly greeting, and we struck up a conversation.
It was evident that she was working at the bar, and soon enough, she offered me a "Lady drink." As a foreigner, I was not entirely sure what that meant, but I accepted it nonetheless. We continued to talk, and I learned that she was from a small village outside of Bangkok and had come to Pattaya to work at the bar.
As the night progressed, the atmosphere in the bar became more lively, and the music grew louder. My new acquaintance and I continued to chat, and I began to feel a connection with her. However, it was not until later in the night that I realized the nature of our interaction.
I had unknowingly stumbled upon the world of Thai bar girls, women who work in bars and clubs to entertain and solicit drinks and companionship from male patrons. This discovery left me with mixed emotions. On one hand, I enjoyed spending time with this young woman, but on the other hand, I was uncomfortable with the notion of paying for her company.
Over the course of my stay in Pattaya, I encountered several other girls, each with their unique stories and experiences. Some had chosen to work at the bars to support their families, while others did so to finance their own education or pursue a better life in the city. However, the underlying reality was that these women were in a vulnerable position, often exploited by their employers and subject to the whims of male patrons.
As a foreigner, it was easy to become enamored with the idea of the exotic and mysterious Thai bar girl, but it was important to remember that these women were individuals with their own aspirations and struggles. The culture of these girls is complex and multifaceted, and it is crucial to approach it with respect and sensitivity.
Looking back on my first encounter, I recognize that it was a learning experience, one that allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of the complexities of the culture and society in which I was a guest. It is important to approach new experiences with an open mind and a willingness to learn, and I am grateful for the opportunity to have done so in Thailand.
