Ferry service between Hua Hin district in Prachuap Khiri Khan and Pattaya will start Jan 1, 2017.
Do you remember: In a move aimed at enhancing connectivity and promoting tourism, a new ferry service between Hua Hin district in Prachuap Khiri Khan and Pattaya was inaugurated on January 1, 2017. The service, which was announced by Aekarach Khantharo, head of the regional marine office, operates between a fishing pier in Hua Hin and Pattaya's Bali Hai pier, which has been upgraded to accommodate the ferry service.
Ferry service between Hua Hin and Pattaya begins in 2017, boosting connectivity and tourism.
During the initial test run, ferries departed from Hua Hin's fishing pier at 8:30 am, making their way to Pattaya. The return trip from Pattaya to Hua Hin occurred at 3:30 pm. The launch of the service coincided with the New Year celebrations, and as a special gesture, free rides were offered as a gift until January 15. After this promotional period, the regular fare of 1,250 baht was implemented, with the Marine Department committee considering adjusting prices based on maintenance and fuel costs.
To cater to the anticipated demand, the concessionaire responsible for the ferry service procured three large 38 meter long ferries from China, each with a capacity to carry up to 339 passengers. These ferries boast impressive speeds of up to 27 knots, ensuring that the journey between Pattaya and Hua Hin lasts no longer than two hours. Considering the proximity of the two destinations, with Hua Hin located approximately 345 kilometers by road but only 105 kilometers across the Gulf of Thailand, the ferry service is expected to reduce heavy road traffic during peak travel periods and popular holidays.
Aside from its positive impact on transportation, the ferry service holds significant economic potential. By facilitating smoother access between the two resort towns, it is projected to boost the local economies and enhance the country's competitiveness in the tourism sector. Additionally, this new transport option is set to contribute to the ongoing efforts of the National Council for Peace and Order to improve the overall image of Pattaya. Recent measures undertaken by the council involved the relocation of seafood vendors and tourist speedboats that previously crowded the Bali Hai pier.
Safety is of paramount importance in any transportation service, and the Marine Department officials have been diligent in conducting regular inspections of the ferries and associated equipment to ensure the well being of passengers and tourists. It is crucial that the service maintains a high standard of safety to inspire confidence among travelers and encourage long term sustainability.
While a privately run ferry service had previously operated between Pattaya, Hua Hin, and Phetchaburi's Cha Am, it faced financial challenges and was discontinued in 2011. However, with the recent improvements in infrastructure and the commitment to establishing a reliable and efficient ferry service, it is hoped that the current venture will overcome such obstacles and thrive in the years to come.
As the ferry service embarks on its journey, it presents exciting prospects for both local residents and tourists. Not only will it facilitate travel between Hua Hin and Pattaya, but it will also contribute to the growth of the regional economy and reduce congestion on the roads.
The launch of this service marks an important milestone in the development of the area, providing an opportunity to strengthen ties, promote tourism, and create lasting memories for those who embark on this picturesque journey across the Gulf of Thailand.
