Benjamin Holst, the most hated German beggar.
Benjamin Holst, a notorious beggar from Flensburg, Germany, has a rare condition that has caused severe swelling in one of his legs. In 2014, compassionate Thais donated hundreds of pounds to assist the 33 year old after witnessing him beg on the streets, presuming he required aid.
2015, deported German beggar Benjamin Holst resurfaces in Philippines.
After being deported from Thailand for drinking and partying while begging on the streets of Bangkok and Pattaya, 30 year old German beggar has surfaced in the neighboring country of Philippines.
He suffers from macrodystrophia lipomatosa, a rare form of localised gigantism that has caused excessive swelling in his leg, announced his arrival in Angeles City, Philippines on his Facebook page last week.
Previously, he was last seen in Denmark in November after being deported by Thai authorities. He claimed that his passport and cash were stolen during his trip to Thailand, and he received sympathy due to his congenital condition.
A German foundation provided him with a hotel room while he waited for a new passport, and he then traveled to Sin City Pattaya where he reportedly showed off over Bt40,000 and gave money to taxi motorcyclists, asking them to get him some good nightlife tips.
One of the taxi motorcyclists, who wished to remain anonymous, reported that Holst was detained by Thai authorities and later deported.
On his way to Laos?
Infamous beggar Benjamin Holst, who was once known as the “most hated foreigner in Thailand,” was denied boarding a Thai Airways flight due to being blacklisted by Thai immigration. Holst gained notoriety in 2014 after he used his swollen leg to gain money from sympathetic people, and even received a 50,000 THB donation from an association that helps German nationals abroad.
Despite this, he chose to travel to Pattaya and was photographed partying with bar girls on Walking Street, leading to his arrest and subsequent deportation by the police.
He has since been spotted begging in Hong Kong, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Singapore. He attempted to board a Thai Airways flight from Zurich to Laos via Bangkok, but was refused boarding due to being blacklisted.
He then traveled from Zurich to Amsterdam and purchased a new ticket for a KLM flight from Schiphol, presumably continuing his journey to Laos. It is expected that he will continue his usual routine of begging in Laos in the coming days.
2018, Thailand, never again.
Benjamin Holst, also known as "The most hated German in Thailand" by the media, is currently living as a beggar in the Canary Islands and has no plans to return to Asia.
The media's constant tracking and reporting on his whereabouts and means of living as a beggar made him unhappy and he decided to leave Asia for good. Despite the many stories and rumors surrounding him, Holst claims that no one has ever interviewed him.
The media outlets that have covered his story include The Daily Mail, Bangkok Post, The Nation, Der Spiegel, Samui Times, Thaivisa, Pattaya One, Coconuts, and even Reddit. Holst has recently arrived in Gambia after begging for a living in the Canary Islands. He enjoys his time in Gambia with his wife and her family, and makes frequent trips to the Canary Islands where he feels the spirit of giving is strong.
The story of his trip to Pattaya has been widely criticized in Thailand. He was accused of using money collected for his flight home by underprivileged people in Bangkok to party in Pattaya. However, he denies these allegations and says that the media reports were based on false rumors and exaggerated stories. These reports caused problems for him in other Asian countries, and he was eventually deported from Thailand.
Mr. Holst had moved to Thailand after a failed marriage and a period of depression in Germany. He started begging on the streets of Bangkok and managed to make enough money to sustain himself. However, he was eventually arrested and deported from Thailand due to his high media profile.
Since then, he has traveled to several countries, begging for money to support himself. He has become an expert in begging and has developed some tricks to make a decent income. He claims that he can make about 200-300 euros per day in Las Palmas, and that areas with expensive shops are the best places to beg.
German street beggar bags wife in Gambia!
Recently, a German beggar who has been expelled from various Asian countries for illegal begging and squandering his earnings at night, got married in Gambia. Benjamin Holst, tied the knot with a young Gambian woman he met while on vacation in the country. In a Facebook post, he stated, "Gambia is a very friendly country.
I will never go back to Asia, only Gambia." Although his new wife's name remains unknown, a Bachelorhood/Single Status Certificate he posted on the internet indicates that she hails from Brikama in the West Coast Region. Benjamin, who is renowned worldwide as a professional beggar, travels the world begging while posting on Facebook about his stays in expensive hotels and drinking. His activities have led to his deportation from Thailand, Cambodia, and Indonesia.
Despite the negative media coverage he has received, he is frequently recognized by people who want to support him. He says that people are kind to him, and that he has a family now, which has helped him in his begging efforts. He hopes to eventually receive monetary support so that he can live in Gambia without having to travel to Europe to beg.
There is no cure for the disease, but it can be managed with massages and certain hoses. Mr. Holst does not want to apply for social security in Germany and has converted to Islam, taking the name Benjamin Mohamed Drammeh.
