At the heart of the success is the exceptional house band, "The Blues Machine," led by the extraordinary Mary from the Philippines. With her remarkable talents in singing, dancing, drumming, and fluency in five languages, Mary has captured the hearts of audiences worldwide. Her previous achievements include appearances in renowned clubs, top class hotels, and even winning awards for her exceptional performances, such as her own adaptation of the iconic Tina Turner. Since joining in September 2004, Mary has become an integral part of our family, and we eagerly look forward to many more great years with her.
The musical genius behind it is Thailand's very own guitar virtuoso, "The Guitar King" Lam Morrison. Lam's musical journey began at the age of 13 when he taught himself to play the guitar on an acoustic instrument. Lam and his band, The VIP Group, toured extensively, playing for the U.S. forces during the Vietnam War. Their unique sound, categorized as "Underground music," made it challenging for them to find gigs in Thailand, as the Thai audience had yet to fully embrace rock and roll. However, fate intervened when Lam caught the attention of a German tourist, who convinced him to go to Germany. Lam's time in Germany propelled him to win a guitar dueling competition, earning him the prestigious title of "guitar king." He then toured Europe and North America, performing alongside legendary bands like Deep Purple and UFO.
Returning to Thailand, Lam released his first album, "Night in Bangkok," under EMI Music Thailand, which sold a staggering one million copies, a remarkable achievement for a rock album. He continued his musical endeavors, collaborating with esteemed musicians and delighting audiences with his mastery of the lead and bass guitars, piano, harmonica, and his captivating singing voice. Lam draws inspiration from legendary artists like Jimi Hendrix, Mark Knopfler, Rory Gallagher, and Ritchie Blackmore, showcasing his versatility by even performing classical compositions by Beethoven on his guitar.
Alongside our renowned house band, The Blues Factory also welcomes The Rock Machine, an exciting addition to our lineup since Lam Morrison's departure. Comprising talented musicians such as Neung, a superb guitarist from Bangkok, Tokky, a skilled bassist formerly of Bangkok's famous Rock Pub, and Pup, the highly regarded drummer in Pattaya, the band brings a fresh and dynamic energy to our stage. With the addition of Jimmy, an original member from Lam's Blues Factory lineup, on piano and vocals, and Tommy, a versatile musician with a diverse background in both music and TV, The Rock Machine expands our repertoire to include a wider range of modern rock songs.
